Servant first, consultant second
I've been a servant, an encourager, and a motivator for as long as I can remember. It showed up all through my corporate career, in the mentees I picked up along the way and in more LinkedIn recommendations than I ever set out to collect. Somewhere in there I started half-jokingly calling myself the Chief Servant Officer. Turns out it was true.
For 25 years that gift lived inside a demanding CPG career. Nearly a quarter-century at Johnson & Johnson in supply chain and customer development, managing trade budgets up to $100M and carrying more than $150M in direct sales at Walmart. Then I sat in the president's chair at a CPG company, where the P&L wasn't a slide in someone's deck. It was mine. I grew sales 17% year over year, cut operating costs 6%, and improved gross margin 5 points, and I watched real margin walk out the door the moment nobody was watching it.
Then a family circumstance changed everything, and I had to stop and ask what actually mattered. That's the moment Catapult Group really started. Not in a business plan, but in a decision to build a life around the things I was put here to do: teaching, coaching, serving.
Here's the part I didn't expect. I didn't have to go looking for founders. People were already finding me, calling for advice, sending their contacts my way, long before I ever called this a business. When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. Turns out that works both ways.
So now I get to do the thing I love most. I sit across from a founder, hear their story (every one as unique as a fingerprint), and become their biggest cheerleader while I help them see the profit, and the CEO, they can't quite see in themselves yet.
If your revenue's climbing and your bank account isn't telling the same story, that's usually not a growth problem. It's a margin problem.
